I hope the summer went well for everyone. It seemed to fly by for me and I can say I am actually looking forward to some cooler weather and some rain so all these wildfires can be put out.
Elections were held at the Northwest Section conference hosted this past June in Bellingham, Washington. I am pleased to present the Executive Board members for the 2018-2019 year who are as follows:
President – Jody Carriere
Vice President – Joe Muzee
Second Vice President – Ken Nutt
Secretary / Treasurer – Kai Antrim (Western Systems)
Delegate – Rick Jensen (2nd year of 2 year term)
Alternate Delegate - Allyson Thompson
As you see many names recycling through the chairs, keep in mind that this is a volunteer organization and its continued success is a responsibility of all of its members. Please volunteer, even if it is for a small part of a committee. We are currently looking for someone to chair the Scholarship Committee. There is very little time commitment involved and it is a great way to get involved. We are also in need of a Section Representative for Oregon. Please give me a call if you are an Oregon member and would like to learn more about the position.
Rick, Allyson, Mark and I attended the International Conference in Orlando Florida last month and will be updating the section with news from International as we hold meetings this year. Rick will also be preparing an updated delegate’s report that will be posted on our website.
I would like to thank all of you who attended the Northwest Section Conference and school in Bellingham. We had a great turn-out and heard very good things from the attendees and vendors. A huge thank you goes out to our certification chair, Mark Rodgers, who managed the reservations, study guide and testing material acquisition, scheduling and test submittal for 5 classes with a total of over 100 students. We would also like to thank Kim Roberts, Rick Jensen, Joe Nollan, Alan McQueen and Jon Shergold (from the British Columbia Section) for their time spent preparing for and moderating the classes that were held.
The conference committee is already hard at work looking for a site in the Portland, Oregon area and will be confirming a date for the 2019 Northwest Section conference. A save the date card will be mailed as soon as everything is set.
I would like to congratulate our most recent raffle winner, Ellen Dean from Klickitat County Public Works, who won a free certification class, study guide and exam at the Bellingham conference. Drawings are still being held at each of the monthly meetings and at the section conference as a way to give back to our members.
The next Northwest Section monthly meeting will be held in Clark County Washington on September 11th. A notice with the meeting agenda and directions to the conference room is being sent out to members.
Our section gave out two $1,500 scholarships this year to family members of active IMSA members in our chapter. The first recipient is Austin Gamble, son of Richard Gamble from Vancouver, Washington. The second recipient is Olivia Fowler, daughter of member William Fowler from Anchorage, Alaska. The section would like to thank Allyson Thompson for her work on the scholarship committee over the last several years. She is now retired and would like to step down as the Conference Committee Chair.
Just a reminder that we are always looking for hosts for monthly meetings. This is a great way to get TARP points with little travel involved. The host just needs to provide a space and the committee will gather presenters and advertise the meeting. Contact any of the Executive Board members to schedule a date.
